The Difference Between the iCarsoft MB V2.0 & V1.0
At LJM Car Diagnostics, we’re all about making it easier for people to maintain their vehicles without the hassle and cost of visiting the garage. We do this in two ways. Firstly, we offer affordable car diagnostic tool products and we back this up by creating blogs like this one to help educate our readers on things you should watch out for.
In this particular blog, we look at the difference between the iCarsoft MB V2.0 and what some wrongly believe to be its predecessor - the iCarsoft MB V1.0. By reading on, you won’t be an expert on the subject by any means, but you will understand what separates them.

The iCarsoft MB V1.0
Ideal for Mercedes Benz, Smart, Sprinter and other OBD2 compliant (any car made after 1996) vehicles. Rather than being an earlier version of the 2.0 - a common misconception - the MB V1.0 car diagnostic scanner is actually a direct replacement for the 1st generation, i980 kit, which itself is currently being phased out of production.
It’s a car diagnostic reader that can be used to identify airbag issues and engine faults, as well as issues with ABS, air conditioning, transmission, parking sensors, powering steering and battery voltage. It can also be used for oil service and maintenance service resets.
With that being said, we can’t guarantee every one of these functions will be available for your vehicle.
It’s so important to check with us before purchasing or to have a quick look at the coverage lists we’ve uploaded.
The iCarsoft MB V2.0
So, to the subject of the piece. The differences that come with Version 2.0. Well, as we’ve already mentioned, it’s not a direct replacement for the 1.0, as it was released at the same time. The iCarsoft MB V2.0 is a replacement for the second generation, MB II Kit and is able to do everything that the 1.0 can, with some notable additions.
The V2.0, which will set you back around £50 more than the V1.0 can also be used to register AGM (Absorbed Glass Matt) batteries that come with newer cars. It easily retrieves and displays the DTCs from the vehicle's control system including the engine module, ABS, transmission, airbag, A/C, parking assist, power steering and more!
It’s also a car scanner that can be used to diagnose faults with electronic throttle control systems, steering angle sensors, SAS Calibration, electronic parking brakes and diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration.
Again, these service functions vary from vehicle to vehicle, so it's always best to check with us first.
It’s easy to see why the confusion arises when discussing these two car code readers . There are similarities of course, but they’re not part of the same range of tools. Knowing that fact is key to understanding which device is right for your precise needs.
Understanding Which Tools to Buy Saves Money
So, as you can see, whilst the two types of iCarsoft scanner sound very similar, they are quite different for what they offer to the user. Knowing the difference can save you money, as it helps you identify the exact features you want from your OBD2 scanner and prevents you from wasting money on features that you’re never going to use.
